Overview:
When I first laid eyes on this fluffy calico cat on Instagram, I was instantly captivated. Even though I already have nine cats of my own (whom I adore), Freya stood out as the most beautiful and unique feline I'd ever seen. With her striking orange face, I knew I had to craft a 3D needle felted portrait of her as a special gift.
Features:
Freya's eyes are incredibly alluring, and I believed that capturing their essence was crucial to portraying her spirit. Her pupils are small and elongated, unlike any ready-made eyes available on the market. So, I hand-painted a custom pair just for her. Being a calico, Freya has those distinctive patches of orange and black intermingled in her coat. I meticulously recreated these intricate patterns to do justice to her unique coloration.
Creation Process:
To begin the process, I pored over countless photos of Freya (which were honestly amazing). I then sketched her outline to help cement her image in my mind. Finally, I worked through each step in order: creating the base form, adding the eyes and ears, needle felting the fur, and trimming it to perfection.
